Hello Parents!

Kiddie DayCare (KDC) started as a vision from Steve Callahan’s father. He was a pastor and envisioned Steve working with children. When Steve began his coaching career, he believed he understood what his father meant. He attended Kent State University for Elementary Education, and while Steve initially thought the vision was to coach kids in football, his father felt differently. He knew Steve was meant to work with much younger children.

While Steve and his wife Bonnie were living in a one-bedroom apartment in Warren, they were just beginning to understand what this vision truly meant. At the time, Bonnie was working at St. Joseph Hospital, and they had just received word that her position would no longer be needed. Steve’s father, in his God-given wisdom, believed the time had finally come. Not by chance, but by divine intervention, Steve saw an ad in the paper for an infant caregiver at a local church. Knowing Bonnie had 15 years of pediatric care experience at the hospital, he encouraged her to apply. She was hired immediately and later became head of the infant care department.

In 1988, after Steve completed his second year of school, his father guided him toward the idea of opening his own daycare. Through months of research, and recognizing that Bonnie’s expertise in infant care paired with Steve’s background in education and coaching would be a perfect fit, they moved forward. The program was built around their unique skill sets. They became certified through the state, completed the required administrative training, and found the perfect location for their daycare in Downtown Warren.

The success of Kiddie DayCare is credited to God and His perfect plan to establish a Christian-based program, the first of its kind in the area that was not associated with a church. While the program has evolved over the years, its core has remained the same: faith, the children, the program, and the employees all come before anything else.
